2012 Honda Pilot
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2012 Honda Pilot Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

She was at a taco stand patio in West Santee after a long shift and her bag was gone. Someone had grabbed it off the table. Car keys, wallet, phone, all of it. She borrowed the cashier's phone, called the police, then her sister, then me.

Her 2012 Honda Pilot was sitting in the lot with zero keys to its name.

Her sister had already called the dealer. The quote came back with a multi-day wait, a recommendation to tow the car in, and a suggestion to rekey the locks since whoever had the stolen key could still open the door. The total estimate was a number nobody wanted to hear after an already rough night.

I drove out to West Santee and got to work. All-keys-lost is its own procedure, separate from adding a spare. When you're adding a key, the car already has a trusted key in memory and you're just registering one more. AKL means the existing key data gets wiped completely, so the stolen key becomes useless to the immobilizer, and then you build fresh from nothing. I cleared the key memory, enrolled two new remote head keys, and decoded the lock to cut the emergency blade. Both fobs tested out on every button, and the blade worked the door.

The police called back while I was running final checks.

She drove home that night. The stolen key can still physically slide into the door lock, but the immobilizer won't allow the engine to start. That was the part that mattered most to her. Two working keys, old ones dead to the car, and no tow, no waiting around for parts to arrive.
