Extraction without damaging the cylinder is very doable on the 2001 Elantra's ignition design in most cases. I use picks and extractors sized for the keyway, not a drill. Once the fragment is out, I can decode the cut from the piece itself and cut a new blade to match. Then the transponder chip needs to be addressed in the new key. If the old key head is intact, the chip inside may still be usable. If not, a new chip gets enrolled on site.

The thing people do that makes this harder is trying to pull the broken piece with pliers or super gluing a spare key to it. Both can make extraction significantly more involved. Call before you try either.
