When a 2011 Hyundai Elantra key is done wrong, the car catches it. The engine cranks but cuts fuel after two seconds. The push-to-start works for a few days then throws "key not detected." Or the fob locks the doors but the immobilizer rejects the transponder during the deeper verification Hyundai runs over multiple drive cycles. He also had a weak CR2032 battery making the detection issue worse, so I swapped that too.
The replacement has been working for months and cost him $239. Dealer would have charged $425. The difference between a key that works and one that fails after 10 days is the chip generation inside it.
