2018 Hyundai Elantra Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I was parked near the Cedros Design District in Solana Beach, wrapping up a different job, when the call came in. A guy had lost his only fob somewhere in the area, probably in one of the shops, and he'd already burned an hour retracing his steps. His 2018 Elantra was sitting in a surface lot and he had no way in and no way home.
He wasn't totally sure what kind of key he had. He just knew it was a fob that unlocked the car and started it. I asked him to read me the VIN off the base of his windshield, driver's side. He found it in about ten seconds.
That VIN told me everything. I already had the right fob shell and the correct battery in the van. I confirmed it was an all-keys-lost situation, which means the security system has to be reset and the new key enrolled from zero. That takes a little longer than adding a spare, but it's a known, mapped-out process on these.
I pulled up to the lot, verified his ID against the registration, and got to work. The diagnostic connection handles the reset and the key enrollment together. Once the new fob was paired and the immobilizer recognized it, I tested every button and confirmed the car started cleanly before I called it done.
He mentioned the dealer was his next call if I hadn't picked up. They were closed, and even if they weren't, he was looking at a tow, a wait for an appointment, and a bill that would have made him wince. He drove home from Solana Beach that night with a working key and a spare on order.
The VIN is the move. Text it to me before I arrive and I show up with exactly what your vehicle needs.
