2016 Infiniti Q50 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A building superintendent out in Crest reached out on a Thursday afternoon. He managed a luxury apartment complex in El Cajon and drove a 2016 Infiniti Q50 himself, but his situation was bigger than just his own car.
The complex ran two company vehicles as well, and he needed spare fobs for all three. He'd already called the dealer. The quote came back at several hundred dollars per key, multiplied by three vehicles, and that number wasn't going through any maintenance budget without a fight.
The other problem was time. He couldn't pull those vehicles off-site one at a time for dealer appointments. If a water line lets go or a tenant locks themselves out, the vehicle needs to be in the lot, not sitting in a service queue waiting on a VIN-matched fob to arrive.
I met him at the complex late that afternoon. Before touching anything, I backed up the immobilizer module data on each vehicle. When you're adding keys to multiple cars in one session, that backup is your safety net if anything interrupts the write sequence. The Q50's five-button smart fob requires proper diagnostic registration through the OBD port. There's no ignition-turn trick for this system. I worked through all three vehicles in order, tested every fob function on each one individually, and had him confirm each key before I moved to the next car.
He handled two tenant calls while I worked. Both vehicles stayed on-site the whole time. He paid a fraction of what the dealer quoted for the set, and he left with every spare labeled, tested, and ready to hand off if he needed to.
That's the job. No appointment, no waiting on parts to ship, no pulling a work vehicle off the lot for three days.
