I was running another job in North El Cajon when the call came in. A woman was in a parking structure off a shopping center, weekday evening, and her Q50 was locked with her infant strapped in the back seat. Instead, I built a new five-button smart key matching the factory spec, programmed it through the OBD port, and verified every function before I put anything away. Lock, unlock, remote start trigger, panic, the mechanical insert key in the door. All of it.
The baby slept through the whole thing in the stroller beside the van.
She drove home that night. I thought about that job for a while after. Some calls are just about getting someone home safe.
