2022 Infiniti Q50 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I was running another job in North El Cajon when the call came in. A woman was in a parking structure off a shopping center, weekday evening, and her Q50 was locked with her infant strapped in the back seat.
She had stepped away for maybe thirty seconds to return a cart. By the time she got back, the fob was completely dead. No response. Car locked. Baby visible through the glass.
She did not need a tow. She needed the door open.
I got there and got the door open first. That was the only priority. Once she had the baby out and was standing next to me, I had a look at the fob. Swapped in a fresh CR2032 on the spot. Nothing. The fob was not registering at all. I opened the housing and the circuit board had a visible failure point, not just a tired battery.
The good part about having the right equipment on the van is that I could read the existing fob's data and transfer the registration to a new unit rather than treating it as an all-keys-lost situation. That saved her a significant chunk of time because the all-keys-lost path on these cars involves a longer process with a timed sequence built into the system. Instead, I built a new five-button smart key matching the factory spec, programmed it through the OBD port, and verified every function before I put anything away. Lock, unlock, remote start trigger, panic, the mechanical insert key in the door. All of it.
The baby slept through the whole thing in the stroller beside the van.
She drove home that night. I thought about that job for a while after. Some calls are just about getting someone home safe.
