2018 Infiniti Q50
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How quickly can you reach the Naval Base Area in Coronado?

In most cases, within 30 minutes of your call, depending on where I am when you reach me. Everything needed for a 2018 Q50 job travels with me: the key blanks, the cutting equipment, and the Infiniti-compatible programming tools. No waiting on a service bay, no appointment backlog. You call, I come to you.

Q: Can I actually get a replacement Q50 smart key made the same day I call?

Yes, and that is where mobile service has a real edge. Infiniti dealers routinely need to order the intelligent key fob by VIN, and owners on Q50 forums report waiting anywhere from two days to over three weeks just to get the part in hand before programming even starts. I stock common Infiniti key blanks on the truck. Same-day service is the standard call here, not a special favor.

Q: My 2018 Q50 shows "No Key Detected" but the fob is right there. What is happening?

This is one of the most common complaints Q50 owners post about. A few things cause it. A low or failing CR2032 is the first suspect, even if the battery is not fully dead. Beyond that, the antenna loop inside the fob housing can lose contact if the shell has flexed or cracked. The vehicle also has interior antennas that read the fob, and if only one is weak, the message appears intermittently. Start with a fresh CR2032 seated firmly.

Q: I bought a replacement Q50 fob online. Can I program it myself without a dealer?

No self-programming sequence exists for this system. The 2018 Q50 intelligent key requires professional diagnostic equipment to register a new fob to the immobilizer. There is no ignition-turn sequence or button trick that works here. The fob you bought online is just a blank until someone with the right tools pairs it to your specific vehicle. Bring the fob and the car together, and I handle the rest through the OBD port.

2018 Infiniti Q50 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Over near the Naval Base Area in Coronado, a dad called me between drop-off and pickup at his daughter's gymnastics practice. His 2018 Infiniti Q50 fob housing had developed a visible crack along the seam, and the fob was starting to flex when he gripped it. He knew it was only a matter of time before something inside shifted and left him stranded.

He'd already called the Infiniti dealer. They wanted him to leave the car for several hours. He's the sole driver for a 12-year-old with practices four days a week and meets on weekends. Leaving the car anywhere wasn't an option.

I met him in the parking lot while his daughter was in session. The fob electronics were still testing clean on all five buttons, so this wasn't a full replacement situation. I transferred the working internals into a fresh housing, verified the emergency blade fit correctly, and walked through every function: door lock, unlock, trunk release, remote start button, and handle-touch entry on both front doors.

Everything worked. He was back in his car before the session ended.

He mentioned the dealer quoted him a figure that would've covered a new fob plus programming, plus a half-day without his car. He paid a fraction of that and never left the parking lot. His daughter came out, asked if they could get smoothies, and had no idea anything had happened.

Infiniti Q50 Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

How long does a 2018 Infiniti Q50 smart key replacement actually take on-site?▼

For an add-a-key on a 2018 Q50, plan on 30 to 45 minutes on-site. That covers cutting the emergency blade to match your door and ignition, connecting to the OBD port for immobilizer registration, pairing the intelligent key fob, and walking through every function to confirm it works. All-keys-lost takes longer. The immobilizer security access sequence on this platform has a timed component built in, so budget 60 to 90 minutes when there are zero working keys to start from.
