2024 Infiniti Q50
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How do I know I'm not calling a fake locksmith when I search online?

Ask three things before anyone rolls: license number, the company name they operate under, and a verbal rundown of the exact process for your specific vehicle. A locksmith who actually works on Infiniti smart keys will tell you they need diagnostic access through the OBD port, that there is a security processing window, and approximately how long it takes. If you get vague answers or "yeah we do all cars," that is the pattern.

Q: Will a replacement key work exactly like my original?

Yes. We register the key to the immobilizer so the engine starts, and we verify every remote function before we leave: lock, unlock, trunk release, panic. Q50 owners on forums describe bad experiences with keys that were registered for start but had remote functions that never got tested and were dead on delivery. That is not how we close a job. Every function gets walked before the tools go back in the bag.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online. Can you just program it, or do I need a whole new key from you?

Bring it and we will look at it. The catch with the 2024 Q50 is that not every aftermarket fob sold online is compatible with the current-generation immobilizer system. If the fob you bought is a correct match to the factory FCC ID for this vehicle and is a blank that has not been previously paired to another car, there is a reasonable chance we can register it.

Q: My Q50 starts fine but the fob range has gotten really short. Is the key failing?

Short range is almost always the CR2032 going low before it fully dies. Swap it first. If range comes back, you are done. If it stays short even with a fresh battery seated correctly, the fob itself may have an issue with the transmitter board. That is when it makes sense to have us look at it.

2024 Infiniti Q50 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A guy in Coronado Village had a 2024 Q50 that stopped recognizing his fob after a battery disconnect at a shop. The car had been in for audio work, the battery got pulled, and when everything went back together the smart key registration had dropped. The car would not start. Not a dead fob, not a bad key, just a pairing that evaporated when power cut.

He called the Infiniti dealer and got a Thursday slot. This was Monday. He worked in Coronado Village, drove to the marina on his lunch break, and needed the car back same day. Thursday was not a conversation he wanted to have.

I met him at his detail shop around noon. Plugged in through the OBD port, ran the Infiniti key learning procedure, and worked through the security access sequence the system uses before it accepts a new key registration. That sequence has a timed processing window built in as a theft deterrent. You do not rush it, you just let it run. The whole job was about 25 minutes from plug-in to a confirmed engine start.

He tested the lock, unlock, and the trunk release before I even started packing up the tools. Everything was live. He had somewhere to be that afternoon and he made it.

The dealer comparison came up at the end. He mentioned what they quoted. I told him what he paid. He did the math himself.

Infiniti Q50 Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Are you licensed and insured to work on Infiniti vehicles?▼

Yes. EZ Car Keyz is licensed by the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services, which is the state agency that regulates automotive locksmiths. We carry full liability insurance. Working on the smart key system of a 2024 Q50 means interfacing with the vehicle's immobilizer and body control module through the diagnostic port, and you want someone credentialed and insured doing that, not someone running unlicensed out of a personal vehicle.
