Not every Jeep owner lives near a dealership. A farm foreman on an avocado grove outside Vista had a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee that needed a new key. The nearest Jeep dealer was over an hour each way. Towing the vehicle there and back would have cost more than the key, and pulling a ranch vehicle off the property for a full day wasn't something the operation could absorb during harvest.

I worked on the vehicle right at the grove. His Jeep uses an older Fobik key with a Y159 blade, which is one of the most common keyways across the Jeep and Chrysler lineup. I used my VVDI2 to clone the transponder chip from his worn original and cut a fresh blade so the vehicle accepted it immediately without a full reprogram. His Fobik, FCC ID , was a 3-button unit that I rebuilt into a new shell and tested at the property gate.
Two working keys before I left. Total was $134. Dealer route would have been $313 plus two hours of driving or a long-distance tow. For rural customers, mobile service isn't a luxury. It's the only thing that makes sense.
