2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out in Westwood in Rancho Bernardo, a woman flagged me down in a parking lot near the laundromat. She had a 2009 Grand Cherokee and needed a spare made before a road trip. Her husband had the only fob and she was tired of sharing it.
She'd already called the dealer. The wait time they gave her was four days for an appointment, and the price they quoted made her put the phone down.
Her coworker had used me on a Dodge and passed along my number. When I pulled up she already had the paperwork ready, which made everything faster.
The FOBIK on this generation is a specific format. The key blade folds out of the bottom of the remote housing, so it's one unit, not a separate key and fob. I cut the blade to her vehicle, then plugged in and walked through the immobilizer enrollment. The vehicle security system on these has a timed handshake sequence, so you let the process run without interrupting it. It finished clean. I tested the blade in the door, tested the blade in the ignition, walked every button on the fob, and confirmed the vehicle started and the doors locked and unlocked the way she expected.
Thirty minutes at the vehicle. She had a working spare before her laundry was done.
She mentioned the dealer price again on her way back inside. I just told her what she already knew: the tools travel just fine.
