2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
The dance studio lot off Fairbanks Ranch was not where I expected to spend a Tuesday at 4 o'clock, but it was exactly where this job needed to happen.
She had one vehicle, three kids in dance class, and a smart key fob housing that was visibly splitting at the seam. She knew it was failing. The key still worked, for now, but she could see the crack spreading and she was not wrong to be worried. When the housing goes far enough, the internal board shifts, the battery loses contact, and suddenly you are standing in a parking lot with a dead fob and kids waiting inside.
She called the dealer first. They told her to drop the vehicle off. She asked if she could wait. They said probably not, plan on leaving it. She has one car and three kids on a school-day schedule. That conversation ended fast.
I pulled into the studio lot right as the 4 o'clock class was starting. She handed me the fob. The housing was cracked along the back seam, the kind of fracture that comes from being dropped on a hard floor more than once. The electronics inside were intact. The fob still had valid programming.
I moved the internals into a fresh shell, confirmed the battery contact was seated properly, and verified every button function. Lock, unlock, remote start if equipped, the panic button, all of it. Then I checked that the key was still recognized by the vehicle and that the start sequence behaved normally.
She walked out of the studio with the kids before I had finished putting my tools away. They climbed in, asked about ice cream, and had no idea anything had happened. She saved a good chunk compared to what the dealer quoted, and more importantly she never had to leave her vehicle anywhere.
