I got a call from a plumber who lives over in Loma Alta, in Oceanside. He had a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, one key, and it was starting to get flaky. I opened the FOBIK and the CR2032 inside had a little corrosion on one of the contact clips, just enough to cause an intermittent connection. Clean contacts, fresh battery, pivot pin tightened down.

Then I connected to the OBD port and did a proper programming procedure to register a new FOBIK to the vehicle. Tested every button, tested the ignition, tested it a second time with the door closed to make sure the immobilizer was seeing it clean.

He was in his truck and on his way before 8:30. Saved a good chunk compared to what the dealer quoted, and he didn't lose a single work hour. That's the whole job. No waiting room, no service writer, no tow.
