2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How fast can you get to my location in North Park?

I serve all of San Diego and North Park is a regular stop for me. Typical arrival is within 30 minutes of your call, depending on traffic and where I am when you reach me. When you call, I confirm the exact fob type and key details for your 2023 Grand Cherokee, pull the right blank and tools from the van, and head straight to you. Jeep dealers in San Diego have been booking key appointments several weeks out.

Q: Can I get a key made today?

Yes. I carry the correct fob blanks and programming equipment for the 2023 Grand Cherokee on every service call. There is no waiting for a part to ship, no booking an appointment for next week, and no being told the blank has to be special-ordered. Grand Cherokee owners on the forums regularly describe showing up for a scheduled dealer appointment and finding out the fob was never ordered in the first place. That does not happen when you call me.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online. Can you just program it, or do I need the fob from you?

This comes up a lot. The short answer: it depends on what you bought. The 2023 Grand Cherokee uses a specific fob, and not every aftermarket blank sold online is compatible with the WL-generation security system. Some work fine. Some don't pair at all, and there is no way to know until it is in front of the programming tool. If you have a fob you bought online, call me first.

Q: My 2023 Grand Cherokee shows a key warning on the dash but the fob battery is new. What is going on?

A fresh battery fixes most of these, but not all of them. A few things to check first: make sure the CR2450 is seated flat with no tilt, and that both contact surfaces inside the shell are clean. A battery that looks fine but sits slightly off-angle will read as a weak signal. If the battery and contacts are good and the warning stays, the next question is whether the fob was exposed to water.

2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A mom in North Park had been watching her key fob housing slowly crack for about two weeks. She knew it was going to fail, she just didn't know when. The electronics still worked, but the shell had a split running along the seam and it was getting worse every time she dropped it in her bag.

She had one vehicle, three kids, and a dance class schedule that ran three days a week out of a studio near the neighborhood. The dealer told her to drop the car off. That was the whole answer. Drop it off. She asked how long and they said at least half a day, maybe more depending on what they found when they looked at it. She couldn't leave the car anywhere for half a day. It wasn't a realistic option for her situation.

She called me instead.

I met her in the dance studio parking lot at 4pm while the kids were in class. I transferred the electronics from the cracked housing into a new shell, confirmed every button function, and programmed the replacement through the OBD port. The fob tested clean on all five buttons. Lock, unlock, remote start, panic, the full set.

The job was done before rehearsal ended. The kids walked out, climbed in, and asked about ice cream. They had no idea anything had happened.

She saved a good chunk compared to the dealer quote, and she never had to hand her keys to anyone for half a day.

Jeep Grand Cherokee Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

How long does a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee key replacement take?▼

If you have at least one working key, adding a spare typically runs 20 to 40 minutes on site. That covers cutting, programming through the OBD port, and confirming all buttons and start function before I leave. All-keys-lost is a longer job. The security system requires a specific relearn sequence before it will accept new fobs, and that process has a timed cycle built in. Figure 60 to 90 minutes total when there are no working keys to start from.
