2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Saturday morning in San Marcos, the Richland area lot was already filling up by the time a bakery owner texted me. She had driven to set up her farmers market booth, unloaded everything, and then realized her fob was not responding.

No door unlock, no response from the vehicle at all. The push-button start was not seeing anything. Her display was up, her product was out, and she was not going anywhere until this got sorted.

The dealer was closed. She had already figured that out.

I was on-site in about 40 minutes. First thing I checked was the CR2450. Completely gone. But swapping the battery and testing again told me something more was happening. The fob had lost its enrollment with the vehicle, not just its power. A dead battery on this generation can interrupt the pairing state, and when that happens you are not getting back in with a coin swap from the gas station across the street.

I pulled out my diagnostic equipment, connected through the OBD port, and worked through the security system to re-enroll the fob. The 2024 Grand Cherokee requires the programming sequence to go through the vehicle security module properly, no shortcuts. Once the fob was back in the system, I walked every button, tested passive entry on both front doors, and confirmed the push-button start was responding cleanly.

She was back to running her booth without losing a sale. The whole job was done before the morning crowd hit its peak. She mentioned the dealer had quoted her a wait until Monday at the earliest. That was already not an option by the time she called me.
