2015 Jeep Wrangler
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How fast can you get to my location in Imperial Beach?

For Bayside and the surrounding Imperial Beach area, most calls are same-day and arrival is typically within 30 minutes, depending on where you are and traffic. When you call, I confirm the year, make, and key type so I load the right blank and equipment before I leave. No back-and-forth trips because something didn't fit. Wrangler owners on the forums regularly report dealer key appointments running two to four weeks out. We don't book weeks ahead.

Q: Can I get a replacement key made today?

Yes. The remote head key for the 2015 Wrangler is something I stock and carry. There's no waiting on a special order, no coming back tomorrow, and no appointment scheduled for next week that turns into next month. Jeep owners on the forums consistently report that dealer parts counters don't keep these in stock and have to order them, which adds days before programming even starts. I carry the blank, the cutting equipment, and the programming tools on every call.

Q: My 2015 Wrangler starts fine but the remote buttons stopped working. Do I need a whole new key?

Not necessarily. When the vehicle starts but the lock, unlock, and panic buttons do nothing, the transponder side of the key is still doing its job. The remote side is a separate circuit. First thing to check is the CR2032 battery inside the key head. A weak battery can kill the remote range completely while leaving the ignition function untouched. Pop the back cover, swap in a fresh CR2032, and retest from close range first, then step back.

Q: I bought a replacement remote head key online for my 2015 Wrangler. Can I just use it?

The blade still needs to be cut to your specific vehicle, and the transponder inside needs to be registered to your immobilizer before it'll start the car. An unprogrammed key will go into the ignition and turn, but the engine won't run, or it may start and immediately stall. The remote functions also won't work until the fob is paired. So the key you bought online isn't useless, but it's not a plug-and-play part either.

2015 Jeep Wrangler Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out in Bayside near the dance studio off Palm Avenue, I took a call from a mom whose 2015 Wrangler key housing was cracking along the seam where the blade folds out. She could see daylight through it. She knew it was going to give out completely, probably at the worst possible moment, and she wasn't wrong about that.

The dealer told her to drop the vehicle off. She had three kids in dance class three afternoons a week and one vehicle to move all of them. Dropping the Wrangler anywhere for a half-day wasn't a real option.

We set it up for 4pm while the kids were in rehearsal. I met her in the parking lot with the studio in the background and the afternoon marine layer doing its thing off the bay. I decoded the lock, transferred the electronics from her cracking housing into a fresh shell, cut a new blade to match, and ran the programming through the OBD port. The factory fob ID on her key tested clean on all four buttons when it was done.

The whole job was finished before the first kid walked out the door. She saved a good chunk compared to what the dealer quoted, and she never had to hand over her keys or her afternoon.

The kids got in, asked about ice cream, and had no idea anything had happened.

How long does a 2015 Jeep Wrangler key replacement take?▼

Depends on where you're starting. If you have at least one working key with you, adding a second remote head key typically runs 20 to 40 minutes on site. That covers cutting the blade, transferring or pairing the electronics, and verifying all the remote functions work. All-keys-lost is a longer job because the immobilizer reset involves a timed sequence that you can't rush.
