I got a call from a guy parked on the shoulder of the 8 just outside Bostonia, on the El Cajon stretch. Tuesday evening. He was a traveling sales rep and his 2019 Wrangler JL wouldn't restart after a fuel stop. The fob was doing nothing. He had a client meeting in under two hours and the dealer's service lane was closed until the next morning.

When I got there, he'd already tried holding the fob right up to the start button, which is the right instinct when the battery is low. It still wouldn't fire. I popped the fob open on my work table in the van. The CR2450 was reading low voltage, but not dead. The issue was one of the battery contacts had a slight bend from what looked like a previous battery swap done in a hurry, and the cell was barely making a connection. I straightened the contact, seated a fresh CR2450 correctly, and tested range before touching anything else.
It came back. Doors, push-button start, lock and unlock, all four buttons responding.
That fixed it cleanly, so no programming was needed at all. He was back on the road in about twenty minutes. He kept saying he thought the whole fob was bad and he'd need a new one built from scratch. Sometimes it's just a contact and a fresh cell. Knowing the difference before you reach for the programmer is half the job.
He thanked me, pulled back onto the 8 heading east, and that was that. No drama, no tow truck, no waiting until the dealer opened.
