A property manager out in the Live Oak Park Area of Fallbrook called me about a small fleet of Wranglers he used for site access. Three vehicles, and the key situation had gotten messy. Staff had been sharing a single remote head key across multiple Jeeps, which sounds impossible until you realize someone had programmed one key to start more than one vehicle at some point, and now nobody was sure which key belonged to which Wrangler or whether the spares had ever been made at all.
He had called the dealer first. They told him to bring each Jeep in separately, on separate days, and wanted a wait time of a few hours per vehicle. That was three round trips and three half-days of pulling rigs off active duty. He passed on that and called me.
I showed up to his lot on a Tuesday morning with everything I needed in the van. Started with the first Wrangler, pulled up the current key memory through the OBD port, saw what was enrolled, and got to work. Cut a fresh blade for each vehicle, programmed a dedicated remote head key to each one, and tested the lock, unlock, and panic functions plus the transponder start on every vehicle before moving to the next.
The whole visit ran about two and a half hours for all three. He had dedicated keys for each Wrangler, spares documented, and nobody was sharing anymore. He mentioned the dealer quote almost as an aside. I just nodded. The math was pretty obvious without saying it out loud.
