2024 Jeep Wrangler
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How do I know you are not a scam locksmith?

It is a fair question and the scam pattern on Wrangler calls is well documented in owner forums. Someone quotes a low number on the phone, shows up, realizes the vehicle requires secured gateway access to program, and then either demands more money or cuts the blade and walks away without finishing the programming. Owner is stuck with a cut key that won't start the car and a bill for the attempt.

Q: Will the replacement key work exactly like the original?

Yes. Programming covers proximity detection, push-button start, and all remote functions the fob supports on your 2024 Wrangler. The emergency blade gets cut to the vehicle as well. A partial failure that comes up on owner forums is worth knowing about: a fob that takes a drop or gets damaged can lose proximity detection and push-button start while the remote lock and unlock buttons still work fine.

Q: I got my Wrangler wet and now the fob acts up. Is that a key or a vehicle issue?

The fob itself is not waterproof. Wrangler owners who run without doors or drop the top regularly report moisture getting into the fob housing and corroding the circuit board or the battery contacts. If the fob was submerged or soaked, pull the CR2450 out immediately, let everything dry completely, and reseat the battery before assuming the board is gone.

Q: Can I add a second key myself, or do I need someone with equipment?

You need equipment. The 2024 Wrangler does not have an onboard self-programming sequence for adding smart keys. Registration goes through the vehicle security system via the OBD port, and the secured gateway has to be accessed first. There is no ignition-turn sequence or button trick that gets around that on this generation.

2024 Jeep Wrangler Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a woman in Cardiff-by-the-Sea who works at a daycare near the water. Early shift. She walked out to her 2024 Wrangler and the fob was completely unresponsive. Not a low battery. Not a weak signal. The push-button start gave her nothing, the doors wouldn't respond, and she had a room of toddlers counting on her being there in twenty minutes.

She called me instead of the dealer because someone told her the dealer would take days. I was there in about thirty minutes.

I plugged into the OBD port and ran the security access sequence the vehicle security system on these newer Wranglers requires. It has a timed process built into the protocol, so you wait it out. While the system worked through that sequence, I prepped the new fob and cut the emergency blade to her vehicle. When security cleared, I registered the fob, then walked every function: push-button start, lock, unlock, and the blade itself in the door cylinder.

She was late. But she made it in. And she had a working key in her hand before she walked through the door.

The dealer, for what it's worth, would have told her to leave the vehicle and come back in a day or two.

Jeep Wrangler Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Are you licensed and insured to work on Jeep vehicles?▼

Yes. EZ Car Keyz is a California BSIS licensed locksmith company (LCO#6792), fully insured, and NASTF Vehicle Security Professional certified. The reason that last part matters on a 2024 Wrangler specifically: the vehicle security system on current Wranglers requires access through a secured gateway before any key programming can happen. That gateway is not a workaround or a shortcut, it is a required step in the process, and not every locksmith carries equipment that handles it.
