2018 Jeep Wrangler
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2018 Jeep Wrangler Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was parked near Moonlight Beach on a Tuesday afternoon when a call came in from a woman managing a dental office just up the road in Encinitas. She hadn't lost her key.

She still had her original fob. But she'd never had a spare, and she'd been putting off getting one for two years. A coworker's bad week, something about a dead battery and a locked car in a parking structure, finally pushed her to call.

She met me in the lot behind the office on her lunch break. The Wrangler was a 2018 JK, last year of that run, and she wanted to watch the whole thing.

I started by testing her original fob. Passive entry on both doors, all four buttons, started it twice. Everything worked. That matters because if the original has a glitch, I want to know before I program a second key alongside it.

Then I pulled the new fob, connected to the OBD port, ran security access through the body control module, and registered the new key to the vehicle. The system enrolled it without a fight. Cut the emergency blade to match her lock, seated it in the fob, and handed it over.

She tested it herself. Both doors on passive entry, lock, unlock, remote start if the vehicle supported it, and the blade in the door lock just to have done it. Every function confirmed.

From the time I pulled into the lot to the time she walked back inside was under 40 minutes. She mentioned the dealer had quoted her a wait of several days just to get a slot. Getting it done in a parking lot on a lunch break was the part that surprised her most.
