Over on the Westside Escondido side of town, I got a call from a small fleet manager running a rental lot. He had three 2023 Wranglers and a fob problem that had been quietly draining his operation for months.
The way it started was simple enough. Keys got shuffled between vehicles during turnarounds, nobody kept track, and eventually nobody was confident which fob belonged to which Jeep. Renters were handed keys, sometimes they worked, sometimes the push-to-start took three tries because the wrong fob was paired. He had started keeping a little sticky note log on each dash. It was not working.

When I pulled up to the lot, all three Wranglers were in a row. I worked through each one in sequence. Gateway authorization first, then immobilizer access through the OBD port, key enrollment, blade cut for the emergency insert, then a full button check on every fob before I moved to the next vehicle. Each Wrangler got its own dedicated key and the old floating fobs were cleared from those vehicles so they could not be used to start them.
Three vehicles, one visit, done before his first rental pickup left the lot.
He mentioned the dealer quote as I was packing up. I told him what we charged. He did the math out loud and just nodded.
