1999 Lexus LS Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from someone over near Alpine Village on a Tuesday morning. She had a 1999 Lexus LS and had been fighting the ignition for about a month. Some days it turned clean. Other days she was sitting in a parking lot near the Pilates studio coaxing the key for five minutes before it caught.
The dealer had already looked at it. Their answer was a full ignition assembly replacement. She was a day away from booking the appointment when a friend told her to call me first.
I drove out and checked the cylinder before I touched anything else. What I found was wear on a handful of the internal wafers inside the lock, not a dead cylinder. The lock itself was salvageable. I decoded it, replaced the worn wafers, and cut a fresh key blade to match. Then I ran the transponder programming so the immobilizer would recognize the new key, and synced the remote buttons separately.
She watched the whole thing from about three feet away. When I pulled out the old wafers and lined them up next to new ones, she could see exactly where the metal had worn down. That moment usually answers more questions than anything I say out loud.
The car started clean on the first turn. The dealer's quote was for parts she did not need. She saved a good chunk and did not have to leave Alpine Village to do it.
