2005 Lexus LS Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Near Encanto Border in Lemon Grove, a school drop-off morning turned into a key situation fast.
A parent had finished dropping off at the private school and walked back to her LS. The fob wasn't responding. No door unlock, no reaction from the handle, nothing. She tried it a few more times. Same result. She had a work meeting she could not move, and the dealer told her they couldn't see her until Friday. It was Wednesday.
She called me instead.
I pulled into the school lot while she was standing by the car running through the mental checklist of everything she'd have to reschedule if this dragged out. I did the battery check first, because that's always the first move on these. The CR1632 inside was the original, and it was reading low. Swapped it out, reseated the contacts, tested range. Better, but the system still wasn't fully responding the way it should. The fob needed to be properly registered to the vehicle security system, not just patched.
Connected my diagnostic equipment to the OBD port and ran the smart key registration sequence. The 2005 LS has a timed enrollment process, so you sit through the countdown, watch the tool confirm each step, then test every function before you call it done. Door handles, start button response, lock and unlock. All of it.
By the time she needed to leave for her meeting, the key was working. She made it.
The dealer had quoted her a significant amount and a two-day wait. She spent a fraction of that and didn't miss her meeting. That part she mentioned twice.
