2001 Lexus LS Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A guy in Old Poway reached out after buying a used 2001 Lexus LS from a private seller out in the valley. Nice car, clean interior, everything worked. The seller handed him one key and told him to get a spare cut at the dealer, like it was a simple thing.
He called the dealer first. They told him the key had to be ordered by VIN, there was a wait on parts, and programming was a separate labor charge on top of that. He did the math and walked away.
He found me through a search and asked if the dealer number was even real. I told him it was real, and I also told him I could come to him in Old Poway for a fraction of that.
I met him in his driveway on a weekday morning. He had the original fob with him, which made the job clean. I verified the key specifications off the VIN, cut a replacement blade to match the original, registered the transponder chip to the vehicle, and synced the remote functions. I tested both keys before I put my bag back in the van: unlock, lock, start, everything.
He stood there and said he wished he had called me before even dialing the dealer. I told him most people do it that way around.
The part that matters most: he now has a working spare. On a 2001 LS with this key system, going all-keys-lost is a significantly bigger job than adding a second key while you still have a working one. He avoided that situation without even knowing he was avoiding it.
