2007 Lexus LS Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A doctor working out of a medical building in Downtown La Mesa called me on a Tuesday. Her fob had been acting up for a few days - the door handles were inconsistent, sometimes waking up, sometimes not. That morning it stopped working entirely. She had patients scheduled back to back and her 2007 Lexus LS was sitting in the parking garage inaccessible.
She had already called the dealer. Two weeks out for an appointment, and they told her the car would need to be there. She had no second key and no way to move the car without a working fob.
I pulled into the garage during a gap between her morning appointments. First thing I did was try the fob against the start button using the backup coil. Car woke right up. So the fob itself was not dead, and the immobilizer was not the issue. Popped the fob open on the hood. The CR1632 inside read low on the tester, and one of the battery contact clips had a slight outward bend - just enough to break a solid connection under vibration.
Reset the clip, seated a fresh battery, confirmed contact. Walked every function: door handle unlock on both sides, lock button, and start. All back to normal.
She did not need a replacement fob. She needed five minutes and the right small tools. I handed her a battery for the spare she had in her glove box too, since it tested low as well.
The dealer was two weeks away and wanted the car towed in. Her car never left the garage.
