2003 Lexus LS Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A woman staying at a resort in South Oceanside called me one evening. Her 2003 Lexus LS was sitting in the parking lot and she had checkout in the morning.
The fob remote had stopped responding earlier in the day, and then when she tried to drive to dinner, the car would not start. She had already called the dealer. They told her to tow it in and they could fit her in the following afternoon. She did not want to tow it, she did not want to wait until the afternoon, and she did not want to miss her checkout time.
I met her at the resort around seven. She handed me the fob and I noticed the remote buttons were completely unresponsive. The key still turned in the ignition, but the engine would not fire. That points to the transponder side, not a mechanical issue.
I pulled out the fob, swapped in a fresh CR1616, and tested the remote. Lock and unlock came back immediately. So the battery had taken out two things at once: remote function and enough signal strength to get the transponder talking to the immobilizer properly. Tried the start again. Nothing.
At that point I connected my programmer to the OBD port and re-enrolled the key. The immobilizer accepted it on the first cycle. She started the car right there in the lot while I was still putting tools away.
The dealer estimate would have meant a tow, a night with no car, and a delayed checkout. She was packed and gone by nine the next morning. The programming is what she was paying for, and it happened in the parking lot, not a service bay forty miles away.
