1995 Nissan Altima
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: What kind of key does a 1995 Nissan Altima actually use?

It is a metal key, cut to the vehicle's lock profile. No remote, no battery, no buttons. You insert it, turn it, the car starts. That is the whole system for this model year. Replacement is a cutting job, not a programming job. A locksmith either pulls your key code from a reference database or decodes one of your existing locks to determine the correct cut, then cuts a new blade to match. Simple as it gets.

Q: How long does the dealer process take compared to a mobile locksmith for this vehicle?

At a dealer, you call for an appointment, possibly arrange a tow if you have no working key, drop the car, and wait for a service window to open. Even for a straightforward mechanical key on a mid-nineties vehicle, that can mean half a day or more depending on how busy the service lane is. With EZ Car Keyz, I come to you in the CSUSM Area or anywhere in San Marcos.

Q: My 1995 Altima key turns but the car cranks and won't start. Is this a key problem?

On a 1995 Altima with a mechanical key, a no-start where the engine cranks is almost never the key itself. The key either fits the ignition cylinder and turns it or it does not. If it is turning the cylinder and you are getting crank but no fire, the diagnosis moves to fuel, spark, or another mechanical system entirely.

Q: Can I get a key made without having the original?

Yes. Two ways to do it. First option is a key code lookup using the VIN, which points to the original factory cut. Second option is decoding the lock cylinder directly, which works even if the original key is completely gone and no code record exists. Either route gets you a cut key that works. All-keys-lost on a 1995 Altima is a fully solvable job on site.

1995 Nissan Altima Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Got a call from a student near the CSUSM Area on a weekday afternoon. She had a 1995 Nissan Altima sitting in her apartment complex lot and zero working keys. The original had snapped, the metal part still lodged in the door lock. She had already called around and the dealer told her to tow it in.

She did not have a tow budget on top of a key budget. She had a parking spot and a class in two hours.

I drove out to her in San Marcos, pulled the broken blade fragment out of the door lock, and decoded the cylinder right there in the breezeway. Cut the replacement key to match, tested it in the door, then walked to the ignition and tested it there too. Both worked clean on the first try.

The whole thing took maybe thirty minutes. She made her class. The dealer quote was a distant memory by then, not the main story, just context for why she called a mobile guy in the first place.

Nissan Altima Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Do I have to go to the Nissan dealer to get a replacement key for a 1995 Altima?▼

No. This generation Altima uses a mechanical key, so there is no programming appointment, no diagnostic session, and no reason to tow the car anywhere. A mobile locksmith can decode your existing lock cylinder or use a key code on file and cut a working replacement on site. The dealer is an option, but it is not the only one, and for a vehicle this age it is rarely the fastest or most affordable path.
