2008 Subaru Forester Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
There's a farmers market lot off the main strip in Lakeside, out in the Winter Gardens area. An organic produce vendor called me from that lot one evening. She had her 2008 Subaru Forester, one key to her name, and a lot of bad advice rattling around in her head.
She'd been told by a friend, by someone on a forum, and essentially by the dealer's own scheduling process that this was a dealer-only job. Order the key by VIN, make an appointment, come back later. The forum post was years old. The friend wasn't a locksmith. And the dealer's timeline meant her backup plan was gone for at least another week.
I met her at the market while she was still breaking down her display. Popped the OBD port, connected my equipment, and walked through the immobilizer enrollment. The transponder chip in the new key got registered to her car's security system right there in the dirt lot. Then I cut the blade to match the ignition and door locks, tested everything. The car started, no stall, no warning light sitting there staring at us.
She was back to having a working key before she'd finished loading her last crate. The dealer comparison came up, and she just shook her head. She'd been quoted an amount that made the whole thing feel like a bigger deal than it was. It wasn't. Same result, same parking lot she was already in, same day she called.
