2012 Subaru Forester Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
It was a Thursday afternoon in the Seacoast neighborhood of Imperial Beach, maybe two blocks from the water. A guy called me after spending the better part of his lunch break tearing apart his Forester looking for his only key. Not a second one, not a spare hidden somewhere. Just the one, gone.
He was calm about it, which usually means someone has already moved past the panic stage and landed on resigned. His shift ended at 3 and he had to pick up his kid by 4. The clock was running.
I pulled up to a small residential lot, the kind where everyone parks tight and the salt air has been working on every piece of rubber and plastic for years. The Forester was locked, no key anywhere. First thing I did was get the door open mechanically, which on this generation is not a drama. Then I pulled the vehicle information I needed and cut a replacement key blade to match the lock.
The programming side on this generation is exactly what you want a job to be: connect, read the immobilizer, write the new key, verify the handshake. The engine fired on the first turn. He stood there and turned it off and on again twice just to be sure. That's always a good sign.
He made his pickup with time to spare. The dealer conversation never really came up, but he mentioned the service department had quoted him a wait of several days just to get an appointment. The whole thing from my first call to him driving away was under an hour.
