2011 Subaru Forester Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A gentleman parked at a clinic lot in Downtown Fallbrook called me on a weekday morning. He uses a wheelchair, and his wife, who usually handles the driving side of things, was out of town. His one key had stopped being recognized by the car. Engine would crank, just wouldn't catch and run. Classic immobilizer issue.
Getting to a dealer wasn't a simple errand for him. It would have meant arranging transport, waiting for a shuttle that could handle his chair, and hoping the dealer had the right blank and equipment ready that day. He'd already looked into it. The answer he got was to bring the car in and wait for a callback on parts.
I loaded up and drove out to him instead.
I decoded the lock mechanically and cut a replacement key blade to match. Then I connected to the OBD port and walked through the transponder enrollment. The immobilizer reset took its time, as it always does on this generation. We talked while we waited.
Once the countdown cleared, the new key enrolled cleanly. Tested it cold: cranked, started, held. I cut a second key while I was there so he'd have a backup.
He didn't have to arrange anything, didn't have to wait for a part to ship, didn't have to leave the lot. He went back inside when we were done. That's the whole point of doing this work mobile.
