2009 Toyota Tacoma Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Up near the CSUSM Area in San Marcos, a guy called me from the shoulder of the road. His key had snapped in the ignition of his 2009 Tacoma. Half the blade was still seated in the cylinder. He had already called another locksmith who quoted him a full ignition replacement over the phone, drilling included, without even looking at the truck.
I showed up with the right Toyota extraction tooling. The goal with a broken blade is always the same: get it out without touching the wafers. If you disturb those wafers, you turn a simple extraction into a cylinder rebuild or a swap. I worked the fragment out clean. The wafers were fine.
From there I decoded the lock off the wafer positions, cut a fresh blade to match, and programmed a new transponder chip through the OBD port. His remote fob was still attached to the broken key and completely intact, so that stayed. I only needed to deal with the ignition key itself.
His original cylinder works. No drilling. No replacement. The other locksmith's plan would have cost him significantly more and left him with a different ignition than the one that came with his truck.
Non-destructive is always the first call. Replacement is the last resort.
