2018 Toyota Tacoma Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A guy in the Cedros Design District called me on a Tuesday morning. He rents an apartment near the design studios and had one working smart key for his 2018 Tacoma. No backup. He wanted a spare cut and programmed before his luck ran out, which is honestly the right call.
He had already called the dealer. They gave him a number that made him pause, and he went looking for another option.
I parked outside his building and started with the door lock. Using a decode tool against the lock cylinder, I read the wafer positions and got the cut data without needing the original key as a template. That let me cut a fresh emergency blade to match his truck exactly. The fob itself, a 3-button proximity unit, got programmed through the OBD port. The truck recognized both fobs when I was done. Start, lock, unlock, all confirmed. The whole job ran about 35 minutes at the curb.
He paid a fraction of what the dealer quoted. Same fob, same programming process, same security handshake the truck expects. I just did it in his parking lot instead of a service bay.
The spare key he wanted is now sitting in his apartment. That is the whole point.
