A single dad in the Milpas Street district called me about his 2015 TLX. The fob housing had cracked at the seam where the two halves clip together. Buttons were barely attached, and the emergency key insert was loose enough to fall out when he tilted it.
He had called the Acura dealer already. They quoted him a full replacement fob, cut and programmed, and told him there was no other option. What nobody mentioned is that the circuit board inside, the one carrying the HITAG3 47 chip and the KR580399900 radio module, was perfectly fine. The crack was cosmetic.
I met him at his place and pulled up the immobilizer data through the OBD port with my ACDP as a safety backup before touching anything. Then I popped the old board out of the broken shell, moved it into a fresh aftermarket housing that matches the 72147-TZ3-A51 profile, dropped in a new CR2032, and seated the emergency key blade.
Tested every button. Lock, unlock, trunk, panic, remote start. Then push-button start, walk-away lock, and the door handle proximity sensor on both front doors. Everything responded the way it should.
He watched me do it on the hood of his car in maybe twenty minutes. The electronics inside these Acura smart keys can outlast two or three shells if you keep the battery fresh and the contacts clean. He just needed someone willing to look before replacing the whole thing.
