An IT director at a corporate campus near the Santa Barbara County Courthouse area needed help on a Tuesday. He had run his TLX smart key through the washing machine the night before and did not realize it until the car gave him "KEY NOT FOUND" on the dash that morning. Back-to-back meetings from 8am to 4pm, no way to leave, no way to arrange a tow to the dealer mid-workday.
I pulled into his office lot during his 11am break. The TLX was sitting right where he had left it.
I plugged my programmer into the OBD-II port under the dash and read the immobilizer status. The washed fob was still registered in the system but the car could not see it at all. The HITAG Pro transponder inside the KR5995364 was not responding. Water and the 72147-TJB-A41 board do not mix well.
I registered a new smart key as an additional fob, confirmed all five buttons, tested push-to-start, and checked that the walk-away auto-lock engaged when I carried the fob about six feet from the car. Everything cycled clean. I told him to let the old fob sit open and dry for a couple days, but not to count on it coming back.
He walked out between meetings, saw two working fobs on his console, and went back inside. The car never left the parking spot, and the whole thing took less time than his next call.
