The call came from College Estates area. His 2023 TLX smart key worked fine yesterday. Today, nothing.
He'd already tried the CR2032 swap. Still dead. The emergency blade got him in, but the push-button start just flashed at him. He held the fob right against the button like the manual says. That worked, engine started, but no remote functions at all.
I pulled up and popped the KR5995364 fob open on his driveway. There it was: corrosion creeping across the board from the battery terminals. Classic water damage pattern. The 125kHz transponder coil still worked because it's passive, but the 433MHz remote circuit was toast.
Fresh fob, same part number 72147-TJB-A41. Connected my IM608 to the OBD port under the dash. The 2023 uses the newer security protocol, so it's not the old 30-second add. Takes about 8 minutes now with the verification cycles. Programmed the new fob, cut the emergency blade on my machine, tested all five buttons plus walk-away lock.
The dealer had quoted him two hours minimum, parts extra, couldn't get him in for three days. We wrapped it up in 35 minutes right there in his driveway. Way less than what they wanted, and he didn't lose half his day sitting in their waiting room.
