2002 BMW M3 Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a guy out in Fillmore, near the Heritage Valley Tourism Bureau, standing next to his 2002 M3. Coupe, Laguna Seca Blue. Only key gone, probably fell out of a jacket pocket somewhere on a walk. No spare, no backup plan. The car was just sitting there.
I told him I could handle all-keys-lost on his E46 in the field and headed out that afternoon.
First thing, I used my HU92 Lishi to decode the door lock and pick it open. Got every wafer position recorded for the blade cut. Then I plugged into OBD-II to read the EWS3 module. On these E46 cars, the immobilizer is separate from the engine computer, so I need to pull the ISN from the DME and match it against the EWS3 data. His DME was the Siemens MS S54 setup, standard on the S54 engine M3. Extracted the rolling code data, calculated a new key slot, and wrote the PCF7935 transponder to sync with his EWS.
Cut the blade from my decode, assembled the remote head key with the LX8FZV remote and a fresh CR2032, and handed it to him.
First turn, the S54 fired right up.
He just stood there for a second listening to that inline-six idle. I get it. That motor sounds different from everything else in a parking lot. The whole job, lock decode to engine running, took about an hour. The dealer alternative would have meant a flatbed ride and a multi-day wait for a fraction of the hassle.
