Got a call from a guy up in the Mountain View neighborhood in Fillmore. He had a 2004 M3, the E46 chassis, coupe, manual six-speed. Zero keys. His only working key snapped inside the ignition barrel weeks earlier. He had been driving on a spare with a dead remote, then that one vanished somewhere between the driveway and the house. The car just sat.
BMW wanted a tow to the nearest dealer, then a wait of seven to ten business days for parts and programming. He did not want to put an M3 on a flatbed.
I drove out with my ACDP2 and the BMW EWS adapter. The 2004 M3 uses the EWS3 module, so I pulled it from behind the glovebox, clipped onto the board, and read the full EEPROM backup before doing anything else. That is the rule. No backup, no write.
Calculated a new key from the EWS data, paired the ID44 PCF7935 transponder, and wrote the updated rolling code back to the module. Cut the HU92 blade on site to match his door and ignition. Then synced the LX8FZV remote to the car's RF receiver, all three buttons: lock, unlock, trunk.
He sat in the driver seat, turned the key, and the S54 inline-six fired on the first crank. No EWS tamper light, no drama. He just nodded and said "that's it?" like he expected something harder.
Whole thing took about an hour at his house. Way less than the dealer route, no tow, no wait.
