Middle of the night call from a guy near the Oxnard Performing Arts Center. His 2011 X6 was sitting in the driveway, push-to-start, and the only key he had went completely dead. Not weak battery dead. The CAS3+ just stopped recognizing it entirely.
He already had the morning planned out in his head: call a tow truck, get it hauled to the dealer, wait two or three days, pay whatever they ask. I told him I could come right then.
I pulled up around 3 AM. Quiet street, porch light on. He came out in slippers looking like he hadn't slept.
I connected my programmer to the OBD-II port and pulled the CAS3+ module data. Read the ISN from the DME. His key was an original comfort-access remote with the HU92 blade profile, three buttons, and the ID46 PCF7945 chip inside. I programmed a new key right there on his driveway, cut the blade to match his locks, and synced everything so the CAS and DME were talking to the same key.
The whole job took about 40 minutes. He watched me work from the passenger side, arms crossed, quiet. When the engine turned over he just nodded slowly, like he was still processing that this didn't involve a flatbed.
He asked what the dealer would have run him. I told him it would have been a lot more, plus the tow, plus the wait. He didn't ask twice.
