I was out in Storke Ranch when I got a call about a 2025 Buick Envista that had been through a rough couple of days.
The owner had taken it to a shop that attempted a smart key programming job. Midway through, the car battery gave out. The programming session died incomplete, and after that, the vehicle security system would not accept any new key registration attempts through the OBD port. The shop told him the body control module was faulty and needed to be replaced. The quote they handed him was not a small number.
He found me through a neighbor and I drove out to meet him. When I connected my tools and pulled the security data, the module itself was intact. What happened was the interrupted write had left a corrupted key record in the module's memory.
