2020 Cadillac CT4
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How do I know you're not a scam locksmith?

The pattern is pretty consistent. A scam operation quotes a low number over the phone to get you to commit, then invents reasons to charge two or three times that once they're standing next to your car. With a Cadillac, the move is usually to invoke the luxury badge as justification, as if the car being a CT4 means the job magically costs more than they said.

Q: Will the replacement key work exactly like the original?

Yes, when it's done correctly. The replacement fob gets enrolled to your CT4's immobilizer so the vehicle recognizes it as a legitimate key. All five buttons function the way the factory fob did. The emergency blade inside the housing is cut to your door lock. I test every single function before I leave, not just the start.

Q: My CT4 shows a key-not-detected warning but the battery is fine. What's going on?

This one comes up a lot on CT4 forums. A fresh battery doesn't always mean the fob is communicating cleanly. A few things cause this beyond a dead cell. The battery contacts inside the fob housing can oxidize or get slightly bent, especially if someone pried the case open the wrong way during a past battery swap.

Q: I only lost one key, not both. Do I still need a locksmith or can I just order a fob and program it myself?

You'll still need a locksmith or dealer to complete it. The 2020 CT4 does not have a self-programming sequence you can run from the driver's seat. Enrolling a new fob requires a professional diagnostic tool connected to the OBD port. You can absolutely buy the fob yourself beforehand if you want, just confirm it matches the factory FCC ID on your existing key before purchasing.

2020 Cadillac CT4 Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a woman over in Mission Canyon, Santa Barbara, on a Tuesday morning. She had a CT4 and a calendar full of appointments she couldn't move. Her fob had been acting up for about a week, she said, but she kept thinking it would sort itself out. That morning it didn't.

Push-to-start gave her nothing. She tried holding the fob directly against the start button, which sometimes coaxes a response out of a low-battery key on these cars. Still nothing. She called me at 8:15.

I was at her driveway in under 25 minutes. First thing I checked was whether the car would respond to the fob at all. It didn't. Dead CR2450. I swapped the cell on the spot, reseated the contacts, and tested range. Better, but the vehicle security system wasn't seeing the key cleanly, which told me the fob needed to be re-enrolled rather than just powered back up. Connected through the OBD port, cleared the fault, registered the fob fresh.

Total hands-on time was about 20 minutes from the moment I pulled up. She was backing out of the driveway before 9.

She mentioned the dealer had quoted her a wait of several days just to get a service appointment. She wasn't going several days without her car. That's the whole reason I do this mobile.

Cadillac CT4 Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Are you licensed and insured to work on Cadillac vehicles?▼

Yes. EZ Car Keyz holds a California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services locksmith license, LCO#6792, and carries full liability insurance. Beyond that, working on a 2020 CT4 isn't just a cutting job. The key fob has to be enrolled through the vehicle's immobilizer system using professional diagnostic equipment, and that requires current access to GM security programming data. I maintain those subscriptions and certifications.
