Arlington Theatre area, right off State Street. The CT4 owner had that look people get when their brand new car does something weird.
"Service Theft Deterrent System" on the dash. Car started fine, but the message stayed. She'd already been to Cadillac of Santa Barbara. They wanted to keep it overnight, run diagnostics, maybe order parts. Standard dealer answer.
I plugged into the OBD port with my IM608 Pro. The BCM showed stored code B3935 for "Remote Control Door Lock Receiver Performance." Classic sign of a weak fob battery, even though the CR2450 was only six months old. These remotes pull more juice than older GM fobs because of the increased range and encryption.
Fresh CR2450, cleared the code, cycled the ignition. Message gone. Then I tested all five buttons at various distances to verify signal strength. The panic button reached across the entire Arlington Theatre parking lot.
She asked about getting a spare while I was there. Smart move. I cut and programmed a second YG0G20TB1 through the OBD port using GM's Security Professional Access. Both keys tested perfect. Saved her whatever multi-day adventure the dealer had planned.
