2022 Cadillac CT4
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How long should a replacement key hold up?

The electronics in a properly matched and programmed fob are the same quality as the original. The programming itself doesn't wear out. What does wear out is the physical shell, the rubber buttons, and the battery contacts over time. CR2450 batteries in active daily-use fobs typically need swapping every two to four years depending on how often you're pressing buttons and whether the fob spends time in extreme heat.

Q: What happens if the replacement key stops working after a few weeks?

Call me. Every key I make is backed up. If the remote function drops out, the car doesn't recognize the fob, or anything else goes sideways, I come back and make it right. I test lock, unlock, and start function before I leave every job, but if something surfaces later, that's still on me.

Q: My CT4 shows a key warning on the dash but the car still starts. What does that mean?

That warning usually means the vehicle is detecting the fob inconsistently, not that it's completely gone. On this generation of GM vehicle, a low battery in the fob is the first thing to check. A CR2450 that's reading 2.8 volts or below can still start the car under good conditions but drop out intermittently in a hot parking lot or when the fob is buried in a bag. Swap the battery first.

Q: I have one working key for my CT4. Can I get a second one made before I lose the first?

Yes, and honestly this is the best time to do it. Adding a second key while you still have a working one is faster and simpler than an all-keys-lost job. The vehicle already recognizes the existing fob, so enrollment goes cleanly and there's no extended reset sequence. I come to you in Santa Barbara, add the second fob to the vehicle's memory, and you leave with a backup. Keep one at home and you'll never be stuck.

2022 Cadillac CT4 Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call on a Monday morning from a woman parked near her dermatologist's office up on the Riviera in Santa Barbara.

Her CT4 fob had died over the weekend, she'd been using the backup key insert to get in and then holding the dead fob against the start button to get the car running, which works in a pinch but gets old fast. She'd already called the dealer. Thursday was the earliest they could see her.

She had two kids in two different schools and a full week booked. Thursday was not an option.

I drove to the lot that afternoon. She met me at the car, still holding the dead fob out of habit. I ran the registration sequence through the diagnostic port using the vehicle PIN pulled from ownership data, enrolled the new fob, and verified every button function including the mechanical key insert before I closed anything up. Thirty minutes, maybe a touch over.

She watched most of it, asked a couple of questions about how the backup key worked, and left with a fully functional key and a spare to keep in the house. The dealer would have been fine eventually. But Monday afternoon beats Thursday every time, and she didn't have to leave the car anywhere or arrange a tow.

Cadillac CT4 Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Do you use OEM or aftermarket keys for the CT4?▼

We use OEM-specification fobs that match the factory FCC ID and frequency for your vehicle. On a 2022 CT4, that matters more than it does on older GM vehicles because this generation requires PIN-based programming through the diagnostic port, and the fob has to meet specific compatibility requirements to enroll correctly. Cheap blanks sourced online sometimes clear that hurdle and sometimes don't, and you won't know until programming fails.
