Got a call from a muffler shop over in the Oak Park area of Simi Valley. Their customer had a 2004 Element that another locksmith had already attempted and walked away from.
Here's what happened. The other guy started an all-keys-lost procedure, and the car battery sagged mid-programming. On these older Honda immobilizer systems, a voltage drop during the security handshake can lock the IMMO unit into a fault state. The PCM and immobilizer stop talking to each other, and the green key light just blinks forever. The first locksmith packed his tools and told the guy to tow it to a dealer.
The muffler shop guys found my number and called.
I hooked my jump pack to the battery terminals before touching anything else. Stable 12.6 volts, no dips. Cleared the stored fault codes with my IM608, which gave me a clean slate to work with. Then I ran a fresh all-keys-lost sequence through OBD-II. The immobilizer accepted the new T5 transponder on the first pass after the reset. Key turned, engine caught, green key light stayed solid and went off.
Took about an hour and a half, which is longer than a normal Element key job. Most of that was diagnosing what the previous attempt left behind. I walked the shop guys through why battery voltage matters during programming so they could flag it for future customers.
The dealer alternative was a flatbed ride and a multi-day wait. This got done same-day, on the spot, for a fraction of that.
