A customer near Downtown Ventura reached out about her UX. Not a lockout, not a dead fob. The key still worked. But the shell was cracked along the top edge, one of the four buttons had that mushy-then-nothing feel you get when the rubber pad finally gives out, and the emergency blade slot had just enough play in it that she was nervous something was going to break loose inside.
She went to the dealer first. They quoted her a full replacement fob. She called me after that, a little frustrated, because the electronics in her fob were fine. The immobilizer was pairing normally, the car was starting, the lock and unlock range was still good. There was nothing wrong with what mattered.
I met her at the garage. Opened the fob on the tailgate of my van, right where she could see. The circuit board inside was clean, contacts looked good, battery terminal had no corrosion. I transferred the working internals into a new replacement shell, seated the buttons properly, and cut a fresh emergency blade matched to her vehicle.
The whole thing took maybe twenty-five minutes. She tested every button, checked the touch sensors on both door handles, and ran the start button a few times just to be sure. Everything behaved exactly the way it should.
The dealer quote was for a brand new fob. She didn't need a new fob. She needed someone to look at what was actually broken.
