1999 Lincoln Continental Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A guy in Grant Park, over in Ventura, called me about his 1999 Lincoln Continental. He had one key left, and it was chewed up. The blade was worn down enough that it barely turned the ignition, and he said some mornings he had to jiggle it for a full minute before the cylinder would catch.
He had already called the Lincoln dealer. They told him they would need the car towed in because they didn't have the key code on file for a 1999, and the turnaround could be a few days depending on their schedule. He didn't have a few days. He drove this car to work every morning.
I met him in his driveway before 8 AM. The Continental uses a 10-cut H72 blank with the 4C transponder chip embedded in the bow. I pulled the key code from the door lock, cut a fresh H72-PT on my machine right there on his street, and then used my IM608 to program the new transponder through the OBD-II port. PATS II on these Continentals talks through the PCM, so once the tool handshakes with the module, adding a key takes about ten minutes.
I cut him a second spare while I was there. He stood in the driveway turning the new key in the ignition with two fingers, smooth as butter, and just kind of nodded to himself. No jiggling. No drama.
He kept the old chewed-up key as a backup in his glovebox and drove to work on time with two fresh ones in his pocket.
