2002 Lincoln Continental Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A property manager over in the Conejo Oaks neighborhood in Thousand Oaks called me from an office garage. His 2002 Continental had one key left and he wanted a spare before that one disappeared like the first one did.

He had already called around. The Lincoln dealer wanted him to bring the car in, leave it, and come back the next day. He asked why it takes a full day. They said scheduling. He said no thanks.

I pulled up to the garage and found the Continental parked in a dim corner spot. Nice shape for a twenty-plus year old car. The 4.6L DOHC InTech motor, the air suspension sitting level. Someone had taken care of it.

I grabbed my IM608, plugged into the OBD-II port under the dash, and pulled the PATS security data from the PCM. The 2002 Continental uses PATS II with a 4C transponder, so the process is reading the existing key ID, generating a new transponder profile, and writing it to the powertrain control module. Cut the H72 blank by code on my Condor, dropped the 4C chip key into the ignition, and waited for the theft indicator on the dash to go solid then off.

He turned it over himself. Fired right up. He held both keys side by side, laughed a little, and said something like "that's it?" Whole thing took about twenty minutes. He went back to work and I went to my next call.

Way less than the dealer wanted, and he never left the building.
