Got a call from a guy out in the Lang Ranch neighborhood in Thousand Oaks. He had a 2001 Lincoln LS sitting in his driveway, one key left, and the remote buttons on it had stopped working weeks ago. I cut a new H74 key to code, programmed a fresh 4C transponder through the security cycle, and registered it to the vehicle. Then I went back and re-registered his original key too, since the chip was still reading intermittently and could serve as a backup.
He stood in the driveway turning both keys in his hand like he was trying to pick a favorite. I told him to keep the old one in a drawer and drive the new one.
Whole thing took less than an hour on site. The Lincoln dealer quoted him an appointment over a week out before they could even look at it.
