Got a call from a guy in the Wildwood neighborhood in Thousand Oaks. His 2006 Lincoln LS was sitting in the driveway, dead to him. Only key snapped off in the ignition barrel with the blade stuck inside. He had already called the Lincoln dealer and got told to tow it in, leave it for a few days, and they would handle it when they could.
He dropped me a pin instead.
I pulled the broken blade out of the ignition cylinder using extraction tools, then decoded the lock with my FO38 Lishi on the driver door. Cut two fresh remote head keys on the HPC Code Max right there on his driveway. The 2006 LS uses PATS with the 4D-63 80-bit transponder, so I connected through the OBD-II port with my Autel IM608 to write the new keys to the PCM. Ford's system enforces a 10-minute security countdown per key during an all-keys-lost procedure, so we stood there talking while the timer ran.
He was leaning against the quarter panel watching the whole thing. When the LS turned over on the first key, he just nodded and said "that's it?" Like he expected it to be harder.
Both keys tested, both remotes verified for lock, unlock, and trunk. Total time on site was about 40 minutes. He kept the broken blade piece as a souvenir.
