Got a call from a grad student near Victoria Avenue corridor. Her 2025 CX-90 wouldn't see the key after another locksmith's visit. She'd paid $390 for a new smart key that only half-worked.
The fob would start the car if she pressed it against the start button, but zero button response. No lock, unlock, hatch, or panic. The other tech probably skipped the RKE side of programming or used the wrong procedure. These new CX-90s need both the immobilizer and keyless control module synced.
I ran the full Mazda sequence on my Smart Pro. First the PCM for engine start authorization, then the keyless control unit for the remote functions. The WAZSKE11D01 has to register in both places or you get exactly what she had: a proximity key that won't proximity.
Twenty minutes later, all four buttons worked. Door handle touch sensors responded. Push-to-start picked up the key from her purse instead of needing it jammed against the button. She kept testing the lock button from different distances like she didn't trust it would keep working.
Cost her less than what the first guy charged, and this time it actually worked. Dealer wanted way more just for one key, plus the tow.
