Got a call from a CL550 owner over in San Jose Creek in Goleta. Both keys gone. One lost at the beach, the other one just vanished somewhere in the house. The car was sitting in the driveway, locked, and the dealer had already told him it would need a flatbed tow plus a week at the shop for an all-keys-lost procedure through their Xentry system.

I pulled up, got the door open without a mark, and started decoding the HU64 lock to get the cut data. The 2008 CL-Class uses the eight-track EIS with NEC-based key encryption, so the all-keys-lost job means working through the EZS module via OBD, pulling the key data, and writing a fresh key from scratch.

Cut the new IYZ-3312 on the portable machine right on his driveway. Programmed it to the EIS, synced the four-button remote, and watched the dash go through its cycle. Started clean. Remote locked and unlocked from across the driveway. Programmed a spare while I was there so he would not end up in this spot again.

He stood there the whole time, arms crossed, watching. When the engine turned over he just nodded and said "that's it?" Like he had been bracing for something bigger.

The whole thing took about 40 minutes. He kept the car in his driveway and saved a good chunk over what the dealer quoted for the tow and the week-long wait.
