Got a call from out near Sespe Creek in Fillmore. Owner of a 2012 CL-Class, zero working keys. He had one key that stopped turning the EIS about a month ago, kept meaning to deal with it, then lost the second one at a job site somewhere up the creek trail.
He already called the dealer in Oxnard. They told him to tow the car in, wait four to five days, and that was before they even started talking about the bill. He said the word "tow" is what made him start searching for another option.
I pulled up to the car in his driveway. Connected to the OBD port and read the EIS module. The C216 uses the same EIS platform as the W221 S-Class, NEC-based chip, FBS3 protocol. Read the module, generated a fresh key, cut the HU64 blade on site from the lock data, and wrote the new key into an open slot. Old keys wiped so they are dead if they ever turn up.
Programmed the four remote buttons, tested lock, unlock, trunk, and panic. Cycled the ignition three times, let it sit, started it cold. Everything clean.
He stood there watching the whole thing and the only thing he said was, "That's it?" While I was packing up, he asked about getting a spare. Smart move. I cut and programmed a second one right there. The whole visit ran about 40 minutes for both keys.
